Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes how Companion Bot ("the application") handles data. The application is a personal-use Telegram bot operated solely by its author. It is not distributed to other users.

Information the application handles

The application processes only data that the author voluntarily sends to it through Telegram messages. This includes:

• Text messages and notes
• URLs and the publicly accessible content of those URLs
• Images, screenshots, and forwarded media
• Metadata of forwarded Telegram posts (channel name, post link)
• Pinterest board and pin metadata retrieved via the Pinterest API

How information is stored

All knowledge base content is stored locally on the author's personal computer as Markdown files within an Obsidian vault. The application also maintains a local vector index and a local SQLite database for operational state. None of this data is uploaded to any remote server controlled by the author.

Third-party services

To perform its functions, the application sends specific data to the following third-party services:

• Anthropic API — for content analysis, routing, and natural-language search responses. The bot sends excerpts of user-submitted content and excerpts of the author's vault to this API.
• OpenAI API — for generating text embeddings used in semantic search.
• Pinterest API (v5) — for retrieving the author's boards and creating pins. The bot uses an OAuth access token associated with the author's own Pinterest account.
• Telegram Bot API — for receiving messages and sending responses.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. This application does not control how those services process the data sent to them.

Pinterest data usage

When using Pinterest integration, the application:

• Retrieves the list of boards and board sections from the author's Pinterest account, in order to allow the author to choose a destination for new pins.
• Creates new pins in the author's account with image, source URL, and optional description provided by the author.
• Does not modify or delete existing pins or boards.
• Does not share Pinterest data with any other third party beyond what is required to call the Pinterest API itself.

Data retention

Content submitted to the bot is retained locally for as long as the author keeps it in the Obsidian vault. The author can delete any file at any time using standard operating system tools. Backups of files modified by the bot are kept locally for the last 30 versions of each file.

Tracking and analytics

The application does not include any tracking, analytics, telemetry, or advertising components. It does not log user behavior outside of operational logs needed for debugging, which remain on the author's local machine.

Children's privacy

This application is not intended for use by children and is not used by any party other than its author, who is an adult.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new effective date.
